The National Museum of Art is located in the former Royal Palace on Calea Victoriei. Built in a neoclassic style with Corinthian columns, the palace fascinates any tourist. The National Art Museum has over 110 000 pieces of great value classified in three galleries: The European Art Gallery (with paintings by Rembrandt, Rubens, Monet), the Romanian Medieval Art Gallery (which exhibits embroideries, icons, wood sculptures) and the Romanian Modern Art Gallery (with paintings by Nicolae Grigorescu, Ştefan Luchian, or sculptures by Constantin Brâncuşi).

King Carol I was a great art collector. A part of his collection is on display today at the National Museum of Art of Romania.

Conservation facts

The state of conservation of the museum along with that of its collections is good. In 1990-2000 the museum went through extensive renovation and modernization works.
