Information: The access is done from Zărneşti and Peştera villages located in Braşov County.

The site can be visited all year round.

To ensure the tranquility, the entrance is blocked with a barrier preventing the access of motor vehicles.

The gorges are flooded by strong light around noon.

Zărneşti Gorges, or Zărneşti edges as they are locally known, offer a 4 km long amazing scenery due to its 200 meters high limestone walls. Its massive look, dominated by rocks and vegetation which seem to defy gravity, can be admired during a hike, and in the summer it can actually be a pleasant and cool stop over.

If you are a fan of rock climbing and bouldering, Zărneşti gorges is the ideal place since many trails are being set up in the rocky walls of the gorge.

Did you know?

Some scenes from the movie “Cold Mountain”, starring Renee Zellweger and Nicole Kidman, were shot in Zărneşti Gorges.

Conservation facts

Zărneşti Gorges were declared a nature reserve back in 1938 and since 2000 it is a protected area inside the Piatra Craiului National Park.
