If there is an experience not to miss in Maramureş than that is definitely a train ride with Mocăniţa. In the historical region of Maramureş, between the Vişeu and Vaser rivers you will find Vişeu de Sus which is known as the starting point of Mocăniţa, the steam train.

Mocăniţa from the Maramureş Natural Park is a logging train pulled by a steam locomotive, which travels on a narrow-gauge railway. Built from 1930 to 1933 and having a total length of 56 km, it was only used for industrial purposes. In the meantime it has become an important tourist attraction, being the most unusual way of discovering a part of Maramureş County. Mocăniţa begins its trip early in the morning, going up the Vaser Valley and returns late in the afternoon. The touristic route is 22 km long up to Paltinu station and it covers an area of rare beauty. The spectacular and wild sceneries will forever seduce you.
