Valea Ţesnei Nature Reserve is located in the territory of Balta, Mehedinţi County. The easiest access is from the DN67D National Road from Cerna Valley, a road which goes through Băile Herculane Resort. From Dumbrava Motel, located 12 km from Băile Herculane, you will find a trail marked with a blue cross. It takes about 4-5 hours to make the trip and it’s not recommended during winter.

Valea Ţesnei Nature Reserve is located in Mehedinţi Mountains, 12 km upstream from Băile Herculane. Included in the Domogled-Valea Cernei National Park, the reserve stretches over 160 ha and it stands out with its spectacular relief carved out by Ţesna stream in the Mehedinţi Mountains. In your trip to this area, you can admire the wild landscape with its steep gorges and mysterious caves. At the exit from the gorges you will see Devil’s Waterfall near the Devil’s Mill, a mill which works counterclockwise.

Ţesna Valley was the border between the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the Kingdom of Romania up to 1918.
