The Mureş Meadow Natural Park

The Mureş Meadow Natural Park is located in the territories of Arad and Timiş counties, near the City of Arad.

The park has three information points, two of them can be found in Pecica and Cenad. The third information point is found in Ceala, where there is also a visitor centre which is open from Monday to Thursday from 08:00-16:00, Friday from 10:00 -17:00. During summer, the centre is opened on the weekend from 10:00-17:00. You will also find that the centre has 34 rooms which can be rented. The administration of the park organizes camps and educational activities for kids between 7 and 18 years of age.

From the information points you can rent all sorts of boats and mountain bikes.

The park has information panels available throughout the park.

Located approximately 4 km from Arad is a unique wet area, the Mures Meadow Natural Park, which shelters a fascinating biodiversity. It’s an oasis of serenity and offers its visitors unforgettable experiences.

The park’s main element is the Mureş River which creates a wonderful natural landscape with small islands, water lily ponds and, willow and poplar forests scattered all around.

Over 200 bird species nested here and they can be observed from special birdwatching areas.

It is recommended to have a leisurely walk up to the heart of the park,  the Bezdin Pond. You will be absolutely fascinated!

The administration of the park offers guided tours on thematic routes, and also means of transportation to discover the park from kayaks, canoes or even bicycle tours.

There are also two old monasteries which can be found in the park: Hodoş - Bodrog Monastery (1177) and Bezdin Monastery (1539).

Did you know?

Hodoş-Bodrog Monastery is the oldest monastic settlement found in Romania.

Conservation facts

The Mureş Meadow Natural Park is one of the four wettest areas in Romania included in the Ramsar List of International Importance. The park is also included in the Natura 2000 Network.
