Constantin Brâncuşi (1876-1957) is without a doubt one of the greatest ambassadors of the Romanian culture in the world. Even though he had success in France and the USA, Brancuşi  never forgot his origins and places which inspired him as a sculptor, photographer and painter. For this reason, he gifted the city of Târgu Jiu (the starting place of his career) with a present  of inestimable value - a unique contemporary art sculptural ensemble. The modern art ensemble dedicated to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the first world war was done in 1937 and 1938 and is located in the city’s Public Garden. The ensemble includes The Silence Table, The Chairs Alley and the Gate’s Kiss. Next to these, the last and the most important part of the ensemble is represented by the Endless column considered Brâncuşi’s “spiritual will”.

The significance of the works is closely connected with the moments which take place before going into battle: the moment with one’s thoughts, the farewells and the ultimate sacrifice.

Take a walk along the Heroes Way, and absorb energy of the impressive works of Brâncuşi the Genius.
